About us

From Scottish Missionary to Digital Missionaries

Spanning over 2000km through Zambia’s diverse landscapes, including savannahs, swamps, and national parks, this overlanding adventure will be conducted in a convoy of 4×4 vehicles equipped for remote and off-road travel. As the expedition retraces the historic paths of David Livingstone, it aims to make a profound impact on contemporary healthcare accessibility in the region.

Central to the expedition’s mission is the integration of advanced telemedicine solutions provided by Virtual Doctor’s telemedicine application. This technology will establish new clinics and enable direct access to healthcare specialists, thereby revolutionizing healthcare accessibility in underserved communities across Zambia.

In addition to healthcare infrastructure, the expedition aims to mitigate the impact of frequent power outages caused by widespread droughts. By distributing solar lanterns and chargers to clinics along the route, the project ensures these facilities can operate continuously, delivering uninterrupted high-quality patient care.

Furthermore, the expedition underscores a commitment to community development through collaborative efforts with Snake Safety Zambia. Together, they will implement pre-hospital snakebite training programs, empowering local healthcare providers and communities with essential life-saving skills.

“This expedition is not just about retracing Livingstone’s historic journey, it’s about leveraging that historical narrative to catalyse meaningful change in healthcare delivery and empower rural communities.”

OVER-LANDING ADVENTURE

Our over-landing expedition will take us over 2000km through Zambia in a convoy of 4×4 vehicles. A significant portion of our route is remote and off-road and we will cross a variety of different landscapes including savannah, swamps and national parks teaming with wildlife

ACCESSIBLE HEALTHCARE

Using the Virtual Doctor’s newly re-developed telemedicine application, we will bring new clinics online and empower communities giving them access to specialists direct from the clinic.

SOLAR CONNECTIVITY

We will supply solar lanterns and chargers to the clinics we visit, helping them remain online to deliver high quality patient care despite frequent power outages as a result of widespread droughts which are impacting on hydroelectric power.

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

The bidirectional sharing of knowledge is important, and we have partnered with Snake Safety Zambia, to develop and implement pre-hospital snakebite training programs to empower healthcare providers and communities

LASTING IMPACT

Evaluating the teaching and training component of our expedition is also key. We see this initial expedition as a pilot that can be expanded and cascaded to other clinics using a “train the trainer” model.
